What do  I do if ....?
...I am being attacked by a rapist?
...I am a victim of family violence?
...I am involved in elder abuse?
...I am involved in an unhealthy relationship?
...I am thinking about leaving?
I am being attacked by a rapist?
    • Go with your instincts in deciding whether or not to defend yourself.
    • Keep in mind that the  #1 object is to escape with your life. -  If you believe your life is in danger, don't resist!
    • Remember, every situation is different...NEVER feel guilty about what you did...or did not do.
    • Immediately tell the first person you see, and point out the rapist, if possible
    • Report the crime to law enforcement.

If you are raped, seek medical attention immediately! Medical care is very important because of possible physical injury, pregnancy, or venereal disease.

    • Do not take a bath, change clothes, douche, go to the    bathroom, or comb your hair.
    • Take a change of clothes to the hospital with you if possible.  Your clothes will be kept as evidence if you decide to prosecute.
    • State moneys are available to assist in medical expenses in some cases.   Inquire at REACH.  Applications are available.

    -  Get continued help and support from:
          -  A rape crisis center
          -  The police department
          -  A women's counseling center
          -  A victim/witness program
          -  A mental health or community center
          -  A social service agency
          -  A campus or school counselor
          -  A religious leader

I am a victim of family violence?

    • Help those who have problems with violence to:
    • Recognize their tendency toward violence
    • Realize that violence is a crime --not an acceptable way to solve problems
    • Seek help to find better ways to share feelings, resolve conflicts and express anger

I am involved in elder abuse?

    • Talk out problems if you're experiencing conflict with family members or elderly relatives.
    • Plan free time to do something you enjoy each day.
    • Seek help from friends and family members when you need it.
    • Join a support group for care providers.  Many communities have them.
    • Consider using an adult day care center, hiring a home health aide or taking caregiver training classes.

I am involved in an unhealthy relationship?
    Believe in yourself.
    -  Get help
    -  Get out
